Vice President and Deputy General Counsel, Litigation and Investigations, Medtronic, Inc.
Joan Humes is vice president and deputy general counsel for Litigation and Investigations at Medtronic, Inc. In that position, she provides strategic direction, leadership and advice on complex litigation matters and government investigations for Medtronic’s Legal Department. Before joining Medtronic, Humes was general counsel for the Public and Senior Markets Group for UnitedHealth Group. Humes was also Assistant United States Attorney and Civil Chief for the United States Attorneys’ Office in the District of Minnesota. While with the Department of Justice, she was awarded the Executive Offices of United States Attorneys’ Director’s Award for Superior Performance, the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award, and the Department of Health and Human Services’ Inspector General’s Integrity Award. Humes also has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Minnesota Law School, William Mitchell College of Law, and Hamline University School of Law. She is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School.
