Please always feel free to reach out to either Deb Lange or myself with your questions both before you get here and once you are on campus.
Students will receive emails covering things like parking, books, classroom locations and introductions to some of the other people you will want to get to know on campus.

Part-time evening students should note that if they would prefer to attend the weekend orientation, they should let Anne Moelk know about their preference.

2016-2017 Week 3
It’s week 3!
Today’s email includes information about your email address, how to reserve a locker for the school year, an introduction to Blackboard, and a note from the Dean of Career and Professional Development, Leanne Fuith.
- Mitchell Hamline Email Address and Password – You will need your Mitchell Hamline email address to access vital services provided by the college including Blackboard. Your Mitchell Hamline email will be the official method of communication used by members of the Mitchell community during your tenure as a student. Please note that you will be expected to use the Mitchell Hamline email address, rather than your personal email address, to communicate with faculty, staff, and other students.
If you have questions or need assistance, send an email to: IT@mitchellhamline.edu or call one of our IT staff at 651-290-6411.

- Blackboard Information- Blackboard is the place to go to find your class syllabi and assignments amongst other things. Some professors use Blackboard more than others, so you may use it for some classes daily and barely use it for others. You log into Blackboard with the same credentials as your email account: firstname.lastname@mitchellhamline.edu and your student ID with Mh in front of the numbers. Right now there won’t be anything for you to see on Blackboard as you have not been enrolled into your classes yet. You will have access to Blackboard starting August 1.

2016-2017 Week 4
It’s week 4!
It’s getting so close and we know that you are excited about getting started with your class work and getting to know your classmates and the law school. In this email you will find information about some minor changes that are being made to the sections, first assignments for your classes, accessing and ordering books, and some items we have already covered, but are good to keep in mind. In addition, I have written you a short note about what it means to be entering into a Profession from your first day as a law student. As always, let me know if you have questions.
- First Assignments. You have assignments that will be due for the first meeting of each class. It’s not like undergrad where you just show up the first day, take attendance and go over a syllabus. In law school you hit the ground running! We will be in touch with these first assignments prior to the start of classes.
- Books. Now that you know there might be some changes in your schedule- wait a bit longer to get your books if you haven’t already purchased them. There is a method to what you may think is “madness” regarding our suggestions about books. First, one of the things we want to encourage is for you to really enjoy the rest of the summer before school starts, so suggest that you don’t, and make it somewhat impossible for you to, work on class stuff too far in advance. This is on purpose as it will do you no good to try to work ahead on your reading. Law school is the type of thing you want to make sure you keep up with but don’t want to get too far ahead because you just never know when the conversation in class will take you off topic and then your reading assignments will change. Second, some faculty teach from traditional textbooks and others use things like Chart-a-course or self-created reading packets. If you are buying a textbook, be sure you are buying the exact edition that the syllabus or bookstore list indicates. In legal books an old edition is pretty much useless to you- pages won’t be numbered the same, won’t have the same cases, etc. You can check the bookstorefor book assignments by section and let me know if you have questions.

2016-2017 Week 5
It’s week 5!
- Student ID Card: You will need to come to campus and get your picture taken for your student ID card. This card gets you in the locked doors (only the main entrance on Summit Ave is accessible without a keycard) and allows you to check out books and study rooms in the library. The place to go for the pictures is Multimedia Services, Room 221. You need to know your six digit student ID number in order to get your ID card. Once you have the card, it will take approximately 36 hours for it to become active.
- Academic Excellence: Our Academic Excellence Program offers a variety of programs and educational supports to help you during your entire time as a student.
- Some Paperwork for you to bring with you to Orientation: Proof of Immunization Form and Directory Opt-Out. The immunization form is required, the Directory Opt-Out is your choice.
