The Public Health Law Center works on matters of national and international significance within the broad spectrum of public health issues. Our organization partners with entities such as the Centers for Disease Control, the World Health Organization, the Minnesota Department of Health, the American Heart Association, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Minnesota and the Food and Drug Administration, among others. The Center has immediate openings for part-time Research Assistants (RAs) to work 15-20 hours per week. Duties will include working with staff attorneys and public health policy analysts to respond to requests from the public health community, local and state governments, businesses and individuals. RAs may conduct research and draft memoranda on legal and policy issues related to constitutional law, preemption, labor and employment law, and housing rights, as well as issues related to e-cigarettes, tobacco usage, health equity, healthy eating, and obesity and chronic disease prevention. RAs will also examine national, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.
Applicants must be in a JD, MPH or equivalent program, or have experience in the legal or policy field. Qualified applicants will have excellent legal research and writing skills, strong interpersonal and critical thinking skills, and the ability to work on multiple projects at once. This is a good opportunity for students to work on public policy issues and hone their research and writing skills under the supervision of local, state and national public health law experts.
