{"id":2037,"date":"2026-01-26T15:13:29","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T21:13:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/academic-affairs\/?page_id=2037"},"modified":"2026-02-19T15:55:10","modified_gmt":"2026-02-19T21:55:10","slug":"full-time-evening-schedule-and-rules","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/academic-affairs\/full-time-evening-schedule-and-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Full-Time Evening Schedule and Guidelines"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Full-Time On-Campus Schedule<\/h3>\n<p>Students are auto-enrolled in the following courses during their first and second years:<\/p>\n<h4>Year 1 (15 credits per semester)<\/h4>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse;width: 100%\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\"><strong>Semester 1<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\"><strong>Semester 2<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">LARC I (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">LARC II (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Criminal Law (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Property (4 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Torts (4 cr.)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Contracts (4 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Legal Methods (1 cr.; pass\/fail grade)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Foundations of Practice (1 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Civil Dispute Resolution (4 cr.)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Constitutional Powers (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h4>Year 2<\/h4>\n<table style=\"border-collapse: collapse;width: 100%\">\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\"><strong>Semester 3<\/strong><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\"><strong>Semester 4<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Professional Responsibility (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Constitutional Criminal Procedure (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Negotiation (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Evidence (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\"><\/td>\n<td style=\"width: 50%\">Constitutional Liberties (3 cr.)<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h3>JD Course Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>Beyond all semester 1-4 auto-enrolled courses (above), students need to meet additional course requirements to complete the J.D.:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li><strong>Transactions &amp; Settlements or Negotiation (3 cr.):<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Students may take both, but at least one needs to be on their transcript.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Long Paper, which can be completed in several ways:<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Seminars: courses specifically set up to guide the student through completion of the long paper.<\/li>\n<li>Other ARW courses, e.g., Arbitration with Long Paper.<\/li>\n<li>Journals and other publications.<\/li>\n<li>Independent Long Paper:\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Only for circumstances where a student cannot write on their desired topic in one of the long paper courses.<\/li>\n<li>Requires a professor to agree to supervise the research and writing of the paper.<\/li>\n<li>Can be written only in a student&#8217;s final two semesters.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For students who are on academic support programming (the student&#8217;s cumulative GPA was below a 3.0 at the end of their first year), there are additional requirements:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li><strong>Evidence<\/strong>: Students are auto-enrolled in this class in their 4th semester.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Constitutional Criminal Procedure<\/strong>: Students are auto-enrolled in this course in their 4th semester.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bar Strategies MBE\/MEE or Bar Strategies NextGen<\/strong>: offered only in the spring. Students should plan to take this course in their final spring semester.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bar Strategies MPT<\/strong>: offered only in the fall. Students should plan to take this course in their final fall semester.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A full list of the JD requirements can be found <a href=\"https:\/\/catalog.mitchellhamline.edu\/jd\/jd-curriculum-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>General Schedule Rules<\/h3>\n<h4>First Year<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>First-year courses are auto-enrolled, and students cannot add or drop classes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>Second Year<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Second-year courses are auto-enrolled, but students may make changes to their schedule:\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Students may add courses to their second-year schedule to maintain a full-time status.<\/li>\n<li>Students may also choose to drop one or more of their pre-registered courses but must be sure to meet the requirements before graduation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Third Year+<\/h4>\n<p>Students are not pre-registered for any courses during their third year and should use this time to meet any remaining requirements (including the Bar Strategies courses if required).<\/p>\n<h4>Summer and J-Term<\/h4>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Summer courses can be taken as early as the first year.<\/li>\n<li>Students may not take classes in the J-Term of their first year.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Full-Time On-Campus Schedule Students are auto-enrolled in the following courses during their first and second years: Year 1 (15 credits per semester) Semester 1 Semester 2 LARC I (3 cr.)
