was named general counsel to the Illinois Association of School Boards, where she served for 10 years, most recently as assistant general counsel. Prior to her tenure with IASB, Small practiced in litigation, most notably serving as the supervisor of the DuPage County Public Defender’s Juvenile Division. She also worked as a litigator for a workers’ compensation insurance defense firm and as an assistant public defender in Kane County. Kimberly recalls that when she started at Mitchell Hamline, she was inspired by Chief Justice Warren E. Burger’s quote, “You can get there from here.” Kimberly credits effective networking, combined with the law school’s encouragement of public service as key components in her success.
