Patrick J. Costello, 77, of Hager City, Wis., died Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2015 at his home. He was born Nov. 1, 1937, in Sauk Centre, Minn., to Frank and Anne (Moening) Costello. He graduated in 1955 from Sauk Centre High School and then enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard, serving from 1955-1959. In 1964, he graduated from San Jose State College in San Jose, Calif. While in San Jose he worked as a patrolman for the San Jose Police Department from 1961-1963 and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control from 1963-1965. He returned to Minnesota where he worked for the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in St. Paul from 1965-1969 as a criminal investigator. In June 1969, he graduated from the William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul. From 1970-1971, he worked for the Department of Justice in Washington, D.C. before returning to Minnesota, where practiced law from 1971 up until his death, serving as the City Attorney in Red Wing from 1973 – 1986. During this time he also worked for the Department of Justice as a consultant and the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension in Minnesota as an Adjunct Instructor.
