Timothy Patrick McCarthy, 54, of Woodbury, died peacefully at home Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2017, surrounded by his family after a long and valiant struggle with ALS. Tim is survived by his beloved wife, Deveny, and their four children, Patrick, Catherine, Maggie, and Kelly; mother, Margaret McCarthy; siblings, Colleen Hannigan (Kieran), Michael (Martha Benda), Megan, and Kathleen; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, in-laws, friends, and colleagues. Preceded in death by father, Thomas P. McCarthy. Tim was an Irishman through and through. He was fiercely devoted to his Catholic faith, his family, and countless friends. His wit was legendary and his convictions were solid, yet gentle. His sense of humor was infectious, his laughter could fill the room. Tim was cherished as a true friend with a singular grace by the many who loved him dearly. Tim’s gift for the written and spoken word predestined him for a career as a litigator and trial lawyer. He graduated from Winona Cotter High School in 1981, the College of St. Thomas in 1985, and William Mitchell College of Law in 1989. He spent the majority of his legal career with the Minneapolis law firm Chestnut Cambronne as a partner, shareholder, and president. He specialized in the areas of personal injury, medical malpractice, and civil litigation. Tim was a member of the Minnesota Association for Justice, the American Association for Justice, the Ramsey County Bar Association, and the Minnesota Bar Association, and he was a certified arbitrator for Ramsey County. Tim also was involved in numerous non-profit organizations including the Woodbury Life Resource Center, Nuevas Fronteras Spanish Immersion PTSO, the Metropolitan Tribunal of the Archdiocese of St. Paul & Minneapolis, St. Ambrose of Woodbury, and the Woodbury Athletic Association.
