Brian L. Vander Pol is Vice President and Senior Corporate Counsel for U.S. Bank, the fifth largest commercial bank in the United States. As a member of U.S. Bank’s legal department, Mr. Vander Pol provides legal advice and support for the bank’s consumer leasing and lending operations, which includes areas such as auto financing, student lending, and installment loans/lines of credit.
Prior to joining U.S. Bank, Mr. Vander Pol was an associate in the Trial Department of the Chicago office of McDermott Will & Emery LLP, and spent over 7 years with the Minneapolis office of Dorsey & Whitney LLP, where his practice focused on defensive litigation in the areas of commercial contracts, business torts, products liability, and consumer law. Before entering private practice, Mr. Vander Pol served as a law clerk to the Honorable Donald P. Lay of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.
Mr. Vander Pol received his J.D., with highest distinction, from the University of Iowa College of Law, and was elected to the Order of the Coif. During law school, Mr. Vander Pol served as the Captain and Vice Chairman of the moot court program, and was also a contributing author for the Iowa Law Review (“Relevance and Reconciliation: A Proposal Regarding the Admissibility of Mercy Opinions in Capital Sentencing,” 88 Iowa L. Rev. 707 (2003)). Mr. Vander Pol received his B.A. in history and political science, with highest distinction, from the University of Iowa, and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Mortar Board honor societies.
