Adjunct/Affiliated Professor
Janine Laird received her undergraduate degree from the University of Minnesota and is a 1979 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law.
Janine opened a small private practice law firm serving pro bono and modest means clients before spending a number of years at home raising a family.
Janine returned to the professional community as a lobbyist and eventually became the Executive Director of the Minnesota Food Shelf Association. For 14 years she worked state-wide in collaboration with other nonprofits to highlight and improve the food and nutrition resources of low income families.
Lobbying the legislature was a particular challenge and pleasure.
Janine has retired from her position as the Executive Director of the Minnesota Justice Foundation where she served from 2004 to 2019. MJF increases access to justice for the low-income community by working with 130 statewide legal services and public interest community partners to create volunteer opportunities for law students and then recruiting and training students to fill these positions.
