Judge, Minnesota Department of Human Services
John Freeman is a Human Services Judge with the Minnesota Department of Human Services, where he conducts appeal hearings and writes recommended decisions related to government assistance programs. In the two years prior to becoming a Human Services Judge, John co-created and managed Health Access MN, a health insurance navigator agency. John was a legal aid attorney for the nine years that preceded that, beginning a Skadden Fellow with Anishinabe Legal Services, and concluding as the supervising attorney of Legal Services State Support.
John has trained extensively on several areas of law, including education law, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and legal technology for pro bono attorneys and pro se litigants. John began tutoring students while a law student at the City University of New York School of Law, where he graduated in 2004.
