February 2021
Mitchell Hamline School of Law is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all employees, students, and visitors during this most challenging time. We look forward to gradually re-opening the campus in a safe and organized manner and a full return to “normalcy.” To get to this point, we will continue to be guided by public health experts and current data related to COVID-19 transmission, and we will focus our efforts on three primary mitigation strategies:
- Promoting behaviors that reduce the spread of COVID-19
- Creating and maintaining a safe and healthy environment
- Maintaining healthy operations
The success of these strategies depends on all members of the law school community doing their part to adjust personal behaviors. This website provides a central resource to keep you informed of expectations and requirements, current public health and internal campus case data, the decision process for determining limitations on campus operations, and resources. Please check this site regularly for updated information as it becomes available.
A word about how we determine campus operations: We first look to various data points provided by (1) the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) to determine the level of COVID-19 transmission and resources and (2) our internal data related to reported cases of individuals who have been on campus. We interpret this data to determine the “Alert Level” of the law school for a given week, which is linked to a description of permitted campus operations.
Details of this process are available here:

On behalf of our COVID-19 Planning and Response Team, we want to extend our sincere appreciation to our students, faculty, and staff who have weathered the many changes to our academic programming and campus operations since March 2020. We will continue to stay current about the ever-changing COVID-19 landscape, seek guidance from our experts, and plan for a return to campus based on the best interests of our law school community. In the meantime, take care of yourselves and look out for each other.
If you have any questions or suggestions, please reach out to any member of our team.
