The competition simulates legal negotiations in which law students, acting as lawyers, negotiate a series of legal problems. The simulations consist of a common set of facts known by all participants and confidential information known only to the participants representing a particular side. All of the simulations deal with the same general topic, but the negotiation situation varies with each round and level of the competition. Two teams of two students will be selected to compete. All students portray lawyers throughout the competition.<\/p>\n<h3>Areas of law<\/h3>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>2016-2017 Business Law<\/li>\n<li>2015-2016 Information Law<\/li>\n<li>2014-2015 Torts<\/li>\n<li>2013-2014 Contract Law<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Regional competitions:\u00a0TBD either <strong>November 4\u20136<\/strong>\u00a0or<strong> 11\u201313, 2016<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>National finals:\u00a0<strong>February 3\u20134, 2017 <\/strong>ABA mid-year meeting in <strong>Miami, FL.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Students must have taken, or be concurrently enrolled in, a negotiation course* to compete in this completion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h3>Credits<\/h3>\n<p>Students earn two credits in the fall semester. Students must be available to meet weekly for on-campus practices beginning in September. Additional practice sessions will be added as required nearer the competition. Continued practices may occur during spring semester as needed for the national finals.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.americanbar.org\/groups\/law_students\/events_competitions\/practical_skills_competitions\/nc.html\">ABA Negotiation Competition<\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Mediation Representation Competitions<\/h2>\n<h3>ICC 12th Annual International Commercial Mediation Competition<\/h3>\n<p><strong>When:<\/strong> <strong>February 3\u2013<strong>8,<\/strong>\u00a02017<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Where<\/strong>: <strong>Paris, France<\/strong>. ICC Headquarters and surrounding premises<br \/>\n<strong>Who<\/strong>: Students and coaches from law schools and other faculties, as well as professional mediators and academics from around the world. One team of two students will be selected to compete. Students alternate portraying the role of lawyer and client.<\/p>\n<h3>ABA Representation in Mediation Competition<\/h3>\n<p>The goal of the ABA Representation Mediation Competition is to enhance students\u2019 knowledge of ADR, specifically mediation. In ten Regional Competitions, approximately 110 teams from 59 law schools compete for the right to advance to the National Finals. Up to two teams of two students will be selected to compete. Students alternate portraying the role of lawyer and client.<\/p>\n<p>Regional competition: TBD (<strong>February or March of 2017<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>National finals:\u00a0<strong>April 20\u201322, 2017<\/strong> ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Conference in <strong>San Francisco, CA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Students must have taken, or be concurrently enrolled in, a mediation course to compete in these mediation completions.<\/p>\n<h3>Credits<\/h3>\n<p>Students earn two credits in the spring semester. Students must be available to meet weekly for on-campus practices beginning in September and continuing through the competition in spring semester.
