The Latine Law Student Association (LLSA) offers students the opportunity to meet with other minority students at Mitchell Hamline, as well as with various attorneys and judges. LLSA also attempts to respond to the needs and concerns of first-year law students. Overall, LLSA is an informal association that encourages community involvement and offers academic support for fellow colleagues. LLSA is open to all students.

LATINE LAW STUDENT ASSOCIATION FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is your group all about?
The mission of our group is to create a space that centers around the experiences and needs of students who identify as Latine. Our community is extremely diverse and made up of students from various racial/ethnic, religious, sexual, gender, and class experiences. We want this organization to be a community where these different experiences are highlighted, celebrated, and discussed to ensure that all students successfully complete their legal education with a strong sense of self and community.
Who can join your group?
All students interested in learning more about the Latine community, building community, and supporting each other are welcomed!
Why is your name “Latine” and not “Latino”?
Part of our group’s mission is to ensure inclusivity for all. The term “Latino” in Spanish is a masculine word used to describe people of Latin American heritage. Although recently we have seen the emergence of the term “Latinx”, the use of an “x” is inconsistent with the Spanish language, both grammatically and orally. “Latine” is an inclusive term that encompasses individuals of all genders, and it is consistent with Spanish. An “e” can be added to most gendered words in Spanish to ensure inclusivity.
How often do you have events?
We will be having at least one event per month. Some months we will be having more if they are months in which important Latine celebrations occur (ex. Latine heritage month, Dia de los Muertos, Christmas, etc).
