The Program provides a maximum benefit of $15,000. Eligible participants can use the benefit in Higher Education, On-the-job training (OJT)\/Apprenticeship or License and Certification.<\/p>\n<p>This program is different than the Federal GI Bill (Montgomery, Post 9-11, Veterans Education Assistance Program, Dependents Education Assistance Program, or Vocational rehabilitation). See the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/mdva\/resources\/education\/educationbenefits\/federalgibill.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">MDVA page on Federal GI Bill Programs<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>GI Bill\u00ae is a registered trademark of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.benefits.va.gov\/gibill\" target=\"_blank\"><em>their official website<\/em><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility Requirements<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/197.447\" target=\"_blank\">Veteran<\/a>\u00a0who is serving or has served honorably in any branch of the United States armed forces at any time, or;<\/li>\n<li>Non-Veteran who has served honorably for a total of five credible years or more cumulatively as a member of the Minnesota National Guard or any other active or reserve component of the United States armed forces, and any part of that service occurred on or after September 11, 2001, or;<\/li>\n<li>Surviving spouse or children of a person who has served in the military at any time on, and who has died or has a 100% VA-determined permanent and total disability as a direct result of that military service and must be eligible to receive federal education benefits under Chapter 33 Fry Scholarship, or Chapter 35 and provide a certificate of eligibility<\/li>\n<li>Minnesota Resident \u2013 see specific program for requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/mdva\/assets\/2024-09-26-hevp-map_tcm1066-630559.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Find your regional coordinator for assistance<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/mdva\/assets\/2026-02-06-mn-gi-bill-manual-2025-2026_tcm1066-723176.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">MN GI Bill Manual<\/a>\u00a0(2025 &#8211; 2026 academic year)<\/li>\n<li>Participation Agreements will be sent out via DocuSign to all participating institutions in July.<\/li>\n<li>Additional Funding Request; contact Luke Johnson at\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:luke.johnson@state.mn.us\">luke.johnson@state.mn.us<\/a>\u00a0for additional funding requests.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/mdva\/assets\/2026-02-09-mn-gi-bill-returned-funds-form-25-26_tcm1066-724165.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">MN GI Bill Refund Return Form<\/a>\u00a0(2025 &#8211; 2026 academic year)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Financial Aid Resources<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Higher Education<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Minnesota GI Bill provides funding for eligible applicants who are in a Title IV-eligible certificate, diploma, undergraduate or graduate program.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mn.gov\/mdva\/resources\/education\/educationbenefits\/schools.jsp\" target=\"_blank\">Search our list for participating post-secondary institutions<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Minnesota GI Bill can also be used for:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Undergraduate or graduate admission tests (e.g. SAT, GRE, LSAT)<\/li>\n<li>A preparatory course for a qualifying admission test<\/li>\n<li>National tests providing an opportunity for course credit at institutions of higher learning<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>More information about using your Minnesota GI Bill for test reimbursement can be found on the \u201cLicensing and Certification\u201d tab.<\/p>\n<p>Applicants must fill out the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\">Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Student Requirements<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Applicants must be a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/136A.101\" target=\"_blank\">Minnesota resident (defined by Minnesota Statute 136A.101)<\/a>\u00a0and<\/li>\n<li>Under the age of 62 and,<\/li>\n<li>Enrolled at a Minnesota institution<\/li>\n<li>Applicants may receive up to $5,000 per academic year<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Note: Applicants must reapply every year for the Minnesota GI Bill.
