{"id":235,"date":"2016-02-18T16:18:14","date_gmt":"2016-02-18T16:18:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/giving\/?p=235"},"modified":"2016-02-18T16:23:39","modified_gmt":"2016-02-18T16:23:39","slug":"larry-king-endowment-fund-supports-budding-trial-lawyers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/giving\/2016\/02\/18\/larry-king-endowment-fund-supports-budding-trial-lawyers\/","title":{"rendered":"Larry King Endowment Fund supports budding trial lawyers"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3>Scholarship aimed at women and minority students<\/h3>\n<p>Those who knew Lawrence \u201cLarry\u201d King consistently describe him as kind, compassionate, funny, and dignified.<\/p>\n<p>A graduate of Hamline University School of Law, one of Mitchell Hamline School of Law\u2019s predecessor schools, King practiced law for 35 years, starting at Murnane Brandt and going on to become a founding member of two firms, King and Hatch and then Larson \u00b7 King. He was a highly regarded trial lawyer, trying more than 100 cases to verdict.<\/p>\n<p>He was equally proud of his work outside the courtroom and in the community. He was a longtime supporter of legal aid and pro bono organizations, and under his leadership the firm created the Larson \u00b7 King Foundation, which contributes to local charities and nonprofits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-239 size-full\" src=\"\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/giving\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/27\/2016\/02\/Kling_Clipped_400x225.jpg\" alt=\"Kling_Clipped_400x225\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" \/><\/p>\n<p>King was dedicated to improving diversity in the legal profession. He was a member of the board of directors of Twin Cities Diversity in Practice and was a loyal supporter of female lawyers.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, following King\u2019s death, Larson \u00b7 King along with Larry&#8217;s childhood friend and fellow Hamline Law alum Steve Kirsch &#8217;76 and his wife, Ruth, established this endowment fund in his memory. As one of King\u2019s colleagues at the firm wrote: \u201cMany remember Larry for his exceptional talent in the courtroom and his command of the law and his clients&#8217; business.
