Knapp<\/strong>, currently associate\u00a0dean for academic affairs, to become interim president and dean of the law school beginning July 1.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2627 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/alumni\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2019\/02\/Peter-Knapp-at-whiteboard_2015-300x200-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Knapp will lead the school while a national search for a new president and dean is conducted.\u00a0<strong>Mark Gordon<\/strong>, who has held that role since 2015, has announced he will step down as of June 30, and the board intends to have a new president and dean in place to begin in July 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re thrilled that Peter will be guiding this institution as we search for new leadership,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Lisa A. Gray \u201986<\/strong>, chair of the Mitchell Hamline board. \u201cHe is a gifted teacher and skilled administrator who has deep roots in this institution and has earned the respect of faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the broader legal community.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Knapp, a Nebraska native who earned his undergraduate and law degrees at Harvard University, began his career in private practice in St. Paul. He came to William Mitchell College of Law, a Mitchell Hamline predecessor school, in 1989 as an assistant professor and co-director of the clinical program. He remained co-director of the clinics until 2017, when he became associate dean. Knapp is active in a variety of legal and community organizations and has been honored for his public service by the Minnesota State Bar Association, the Association of American Law Schools, and the Minnesota Justice Foundation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur law school is fortunate to have vibrant and engaged students, wonderful alums in all walks of the profession, and a strong faculty and staff who have worked hard to build Mitchell Hamline.
