What does that mean?<br \/>\nRules, regulations, best practices\u2026 and all in between!<\/p>\n<p>We strive to remain compliant with laws<br \/>\nTo provide the best service and care, without pause.<\/p>\n<p>Why do we do this? Why do we stress?<br \/>\nWell someone has to sift through this mess!<\/p>\n<p>Administrative rules, executive orders,<br \/>\nProposed legislation within our borders.<\/p>\n<p>Plan types and states and federal reign &#8211;<br \/>\nOf course the requirements cannot be plain!<\/p>\n<p>In order to travel the (over)complicated fray,<br \/>\nWe need compliance to show us the way.<\/p>\n<p>Compliance is here to guide and to show us,<br \/>\nTo partner and support, to train and to grow us.<\/p>\n<p>Tools and resources and training abound<br \/>\nTo help compliance bring businesses round.<\/p>\n<p>The Sentencing Guidelines, following a scam,<br \/>\nCreated the Seven Elements of an Effective Compliance Program.<\/p>\n<p>What are these elements? You wonder with glee.<br \/>\nSit down and relax; I will explain them to thee.<\/p>\n<p>First recommendation is easy as you please;<br \/>\nPolicies and Procedures, also known as P&amp;P\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>These policies document the ways that we work<br \/>\nAnd prove to regulators we are not just jerks<\/p>\n<p>Who do things without thinking or without design.<br \/>\nWe use these procedures so our processes align<\/p>\n<p>With regs, laws, and rules, while keeping in mind<br \/>\nBusiness functions, abilities and decisions in kind.<\/p>\n<p>Number two comes next and deals with oversight &#8211;<br \/>\nCompliance Officers and Committees, you got that right!<\/p>\n<p>The Compliance Officer, in charge of all things compliance<br \/>\nTo that office we pledge our alliance.<\/p>\n<p>Compliance Committees, a stalwart group,<br \/>\nHelp make decisions and keep folks in the loop.<\/p>\n<p>The next element consists of training.<br \/>\nEffective knowledge is what we\u2019re gaining.<\/p>\n<p>Presenting compliance rules and recommendations<br \/>\nWhile working to ebb trainees\u2019 frustrations.<\/p>\n<p>An effective program empowers employees to communicate<br \/>\nIn order to drive compliance concerns through the gate.<\/p>\n<p>Whistleblower protections and anti-retaliation protocol<br \/>\nHelps employees feel safe while revealing it all.<\/p>\n<p>Next comes monitoring and folks\u2019 favorite: the audit.<br \/>\nRoutine checking; regulators applaud it.<\/p>\n<p>Business departments may not be pleased with your presence<br \/>\nBut finding issues before CMS does is certainly a pleasance!<\/p>\n<p>Should a claims examiner be punished greater than a CEO?<br \/>\nFor similar compliance issues \u2013 the answer is NO!<\/p>\n<p>Effective compliance programs have standard rules<br \/>\nFor disciplining those noncompliant fools.<\/p>\n<p>What do we do when hearing an issue of noncompliance?<br \/>\nRespond, investigate, and correct \u2013 it ain\u2019t rocket science.<\/p>\n<p>When hearing of allegations of offenses,<br \/>\nCompliance professionals must take to the fences<\/p>\n<p>To review in due diligence the accusations presented<br \/>\nAnd respond in kind and ensure they\u2019re documented.<\/p>\n<p>Regulators, clients, employers, consumers.<br \/>\nMillennials, Gen-X\u2019ers, and Baby-boomers.<\/p>\n<p>We all know the importance of remaining compliant.<br \/>\nTo these Seven Elements we remain alliant.<\/p>\n<p>~THE END~<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Ode to Healthcare Compliance By Lindsey Hennings, MAM, CHC (Lindsey completed the online Health Care Compliance Certificate program in 2015.) &nbsp; Healthcare Compliance.
