Certificate Courses
The Human Resources Compliance Certificate program consists of the following required four core courses, listed in sequential order. Participants must complete all four courses in order to receive the Mitchell Hamline Human Resources Compliance Certificate.

This course provides an introduction to the employment law, compliance, and risk-management issues that human resources professionals must be familiar with.Course takeaways:
Understand basic concepts in employment law and related government regulations.Analyze and prioritize legal and business risk to an organization.Understand the policies behind effective compliance programs and the role of human resources professionals in implementing such programs.
Develop compliance initiatives responsive to government regulations and business needs.

Talent Acquisition and Pre-Employment Compliance

This course examines compliance issues related to recruitment, hiring, and training.Course takeaways:
Understand the law and regulations that govern the pre-employment process.Analyze and prioritize areas of risk in the pre-employment process and understand how to effectively manage those areas of risk with stakeholders in the organization.Design a non-discriminatory business needs assessment with internal company stakeholders.

Compliance During Employment: Development, Administration, and Enforcement of Policies and Procedures
3 weeks
This course covers compliance topics that pertain to the establishment, management, and enforcement of organizational polices, including social media, performance evaluations, investigations, and discipline.Course takeaways:
Understand the law and regulations that govern employee conduct, communication, and disciplinary actions.Analyze, assess, and prioritize areas of risk and understand how to effectively manage those areas of risk with stakeholders in the organization.Evaluate a simulated workplace event and create an investigative plan that includes specific risk-mapping.

Compliance Issues in Ending Employment

This course covers the end of the human resources life cycle by examining the areas of risk involved in termination, layoffs/workforce reduction, and retirement.Course takeaways:
Understand the law and regulations that govern terminations, workforce reductions, resignations, and retirements.Analyze, assess, and prioritize areas of risk and understand how to effectively manage those areas of risk with stakeholders in the organization.Evaluate a simulated termination and explain potential outcomes.
Review pre-termination and termination meeting checklists to assess compliance.
