Mentors give students valuable advice about law school, networking, professionalism, career choices, pro bono and community service, and more. Mentors can also offer observational opportunities and a window into different ways to use a law degree, and different settings in which to work, all of which helps our students make critical decisions about their own career paths.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>Mentoring just for IP students<\/h2>\n<p>The IP Institute additionally connects students with knowledgeable attorneys in the field. We connect mentors with students\u00a0determined\u00a0to\u00a0pursue a career in IP law and those just interested in\u00a0the numerous ways that intellectual property issues arise in legal cases and business contexts. We introduce students to:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Registered patent attorneys<\/li>\n<li>IP litigators<\/li>\n<li>Business attorneys specializing in IP<\/li>\n<li>Privacy and cybersecurity attorneys<\/li>\n<li>and many other general and specialized IP attorneys<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Admitted students<\/h4>\n<p>IP Institute faculty are matched with students interested in IP to\u00a0answer questions about the field of intellectual property law, our program, and Mitchell Hamline&#8217;s connections with\u00a0the areas Fortune 500 companies and top IP firms.<\/p>\n<h4>Start of the first year<\/h4>\n<p>IP Institute faculty advisors help students identify activities and courses that create a pathway to the right IP career.<\/p>\n<h4>Spring semester of first year<\/h4>\n<p>IP Institute Mentoring Program begins to match students with appropriate mentors.
