When an AND search returns no results, an OR search will automatically be performed on the entered terms.<\/p>\n<p>The search <span class=\"_Tgc\">algorithm<\/span> searches only for literal matches of terms entered into the search box. It does not employ fuzzy searching or allow the use of wild card, truncation or stemming operators. For example:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"narrow\"><p>A search for <strong>move<\/strong> will only return results that match <strong>move <\/strong>exactly<strong>. <\/strong> It will not not return <strong>movement<\/strong> or <strong>movers.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A search for <strong>administrat?<\/strong> will only search for that literal term. it will not return <strong>administrator<\/strong> or <strong>administration<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h4 class=\"allcaps\">Search Results<\/h4>\n<p>A successful search returns a list of chapter subsections that contain the matching terms and an excerpt that places the terms in context.\u00a0 The matching search terms are highlighted in yellow. The search terms remain highlighted after clicking open a selected chapter subsection.<\/p>\n<p>In subsections where the matching terms are found only in footnotes, the excerpt is the first thirty words of the subsection.\u00a0 The matching terms are highlighted after clicking open a selected chapter subsection.<\/p>\n<p>Please note that while the search algorithm does not employ fuzzy searching, the highlighting algorithm does. A search for <strong>stat<\/strong> will only return chapter subsections that match that exact term. However, all instances of <strong>stat<\/strong> (e.g. <strong>stat<\/strong>e, <strong>stat<\/strong>us, <strong>stat<\/strong>ute) in the excerpt and on the subsection page will be highlighted.<\/p>\n<h4 class=\"allcaps\">Search Tips<\/h4>\n<p>Search for statutes by chapter\/section\/paragraph number only:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"narrow\"><p>Search<strong> 14.14<\/strong> rather than<strong> Minn. Stat. \u00a7 14.14<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Search for Minnesota Rules by rule number only. Don&#8217;t include &#8220;Minn. R.&#8221;:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"narrow\"><p>Search <strong>1400.2060<\/strong> rather than <strong>Minn. R. 1400.2060, subp. 1 (2013)<\/strong>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Search for court cases by named parties rather than citation. Omit &#8220;v.&#8221; and other abbreviations:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"narrow\"><p>Search <strong>Humenansky<\/strong> <strong>Medical<\/strong> rather than <strong>Humenansky v. Minn. Bd. of Medical Exam\u2019rs<\/strong> or <strong>525 N.W.2d 559, 566 (Minn. Ct.
