Mark Dayton declaring Jan. 20, 2016, Mitchell Hamline School of Law Day in Minnesota. <!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Mitchell Hamline was formed in December 2015 through the combination of William Mitchell College of Law and Hamline University School of Law.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday was the last in a series of \u201cfirst days\u201d for the combined school, which had welcomed J-term, weekend, and Hybrid Program students earlier in January.<\/p>\n<p>Third-year student Evan Shapiro is confident the combination of the schools, and their legal programs, is a positive move.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-10802 alignleft\" src=\"\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2016\/01\/DSC02384-174x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"174\" height=\"300\" \/>\u201cIt\u2019s good for the future,\u201d Shapiro said. \u201cThe programs will help make the school stronger. It seems we took the assets of both schools and combined them to make the best of both worlds.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aaron Sagedahl, a 3L, agreed. Sagedahl said the combination puts several well-regarded programs under one roof.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s nice that we have programs from both schools,\u201d Sagedahl said. \u201cI\u2019ve taken advantage of the health law program, and the dispute resolution program \u2026 those are good things.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to U.S. News &amp; World Report, Mitchell Hamline\u2019s dispute resolution program ranks third in the nation, and its health law program ranks 13th among similar programs.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Olson, a third-year student, said MHSL combines the missions of its predecessor schools.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHamline\u2019s foundation of nonprofit work and volunteering will come through stronger,\u201d Olson said. \u201cIn combination with Mitchell\u2019s practicality focus, with consistent assignments that keep you on top of what you would do as an attorney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mitchell Hamline is the largest law school in the region, with approximately 1,000 students and more than 19,000 alumni.
