{"id":11396,"date":"2016-09-28T15:13:50","date_gmt":"2016-09-28T20:13:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/news\/?p=11396"},"modified":"2016-09-28T16:49:18","modified_gmt":"2016-09-28T21:49:18","slug":"reforming-legal-education-the-mitchell-hamline-example","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/news\/2016\/09\/28\/reforming-legal-education-the-mitchell-hamline-example\/","title":{"rendered":"Reforming Legal Education: The Mitchell Hamline Example"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Frank Wu, a professor at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uchastings.edu\/\">University of California Hastings College of Law<\/a> and the school&#8217;s former chancellor and dean, praised Mitchell Hamline&#8217;s innovative approach to legal education in a recent blog post on the Huffington\u00a0Post titled <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/entry\/57e9dfbce4b0972364dea2a0?timestamp=1474945752201\">&#8220;Reforming Legal Education: The Mitchell Hamline Example<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wu credited the school&#8217;s leaders for what he called &#8220;three\u00a0smart decisions&#8221;:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>The December 2015 combination of Hamline University School of Law and William Mitchell College of Law that created Mitchell Hamline.<\/li>\n<li>The school&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/academics\/juris-doctor-program\/hybrid-j-d-program\/\">Hybrid Program<\/a>, the first part on-campus, part online JD program approved by the ABA.<\/li>\n<li>Mitchell Hamline&#8217;s focus on a rigorous curriculum that prepares students for a legal career, a culture embodied in the school&#8217;s motto:\u00a0\u201cGreat in theory. Even better in practice.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Wu sees Mitchell Hamline&#8217;s approach to reinventing legal education as something other law schools in the nation could learn from.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can and should learn from one another, about how to change the very nature of training the next generation of professionals,&#8221; Wu wrote in the article.<\/p>\n<p>The article follows a visit Wu made to Minneapolis a few weeks ago, where he was the opening speaker at the Sept. 13 Mitchell Hamline Board of Trustees retreat.<\/p>\n\n\t\t<style
