The organization helps former gang members\u2014both men and women\u2014become contributing members of society through job training, counseling, and support. Each year, over 10,000 former gang members from across Los Angeles come through Homeboy Industries\u2019 doors in an effort to make a positive change.<\/p>\n<p>Through stories that were at times inspirational, heartbreaking, and funny, Doyle encouraged the audience to remember the people on the margins of society, to consider how we are all connected, and to \u201cobliterate the illusion once and for all that we are separate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Father Boyle is the author of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Tattoos-Heart-Power-Boundless-Compassion-ebook\/dp\/B0038A851U\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1536159347&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=tattoos+on+the+heart\">\u201cTattoos on the Heart: The Power of Boundless Compassion\u201d<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Barking-Choir-Power-Radical-Kinship-ebook\/dp\/B071Y387P8\/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1536159347&amp;sr=8-2&amp;keywords=tattoos+on+the+heart\">\u201cBarking to the Choir: The Power of Radical Kinship.\u201d<\/a> He is the subject of Academy Award winner Freida Lee Mock\u2019s 2012 documentary, \u201cG-Dog,\u201d has received the California Peace Prize, and was named a Champion of Change by the White House in 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mitchell Hamline School of Law and the Ramsey County Attorney\u2019s office hosted a conversation with Father Gregory Boyle, founder of the Los Angeles-based organization Homeboy Industries, on Tuesday, Sept. 4. 300 people packed the school&#8217;s auditorium to hear the story of how Boyle founded Homeboy Industries after the L.A. riots in 1992.
