Armstrong, most recently general counsel for DST Brokerage Solutions in Minneapolis, has joined Mitchell Hamline School of Law as a Distinguished Practitioner in Residence.<\/p>\n<p>A financial services executive and attorney who counsels startups and other private entities seeking capital, Armstrong will serve as a mentor and a resource for students, particularly those interested in financial services and technology.<a href=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/biographies\/person\/kevin-j-armstrong\/\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-14231 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/10\/Kevin-Armstrongsmall.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/10\/Kevin-Armstrongsmall.jpg 400w, https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/12\/2018\/10\/Kevin-Armstrongsmall-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Armstrong worked at DST from 2014 through the company\u2019s sale this past summer. Previously, he served as managing counsel at<\/p>\n<p>Pershing Advisor Solutions, a BNY Mellon Company based in New York, and worked with major financial institutions including Morgan Stanley and Ameriprise Financial.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is truly an honor to join the Mitchell Hamline community,\u201d Armstrong said. \u201cI hope to provide students with an understanding of in-house counsel practice and financial technology law as it relates to corporations, as well as an appreciation of the practical issues involved in enforcing certain laws now subject to rethinking because of the speed of changes in technology.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are absolutely delighted to have someone of Kevin Armstrong\u2019s caliber joining Mitchell Hamline School of Law. His expertise across a wide range of areas, from financial technology to securities issues, from blockchain technology to the latest financial product, will be a tremendous resource for our students and our broader law school community,\u201d said Mark C. Gordon, Mitchell Hamline\u2019s president and dean.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong was included in Savoy Magazine\u2019s 2018 list of the nation\u2019s \u201cMost Influential Black Lawyers,\u201d and in 2013 he received a CUP Catalyst: Change Agent award from the Council of Urban Professionals. At Mitchell Hamline, he serves on the advisory board for the Gateway to Legal Education program, aimed at expanding access to the legal profession among underrepresented groups.<\/p>\n<p>Armstrong is an honors graduate of Rutgers University with a B.S. in management, and he earned a J.D. from Rutgers School of Law-Newark.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/biographies\/person\/kevin-j-armstrong\/\">Kevin J.
