Magistrate Judge Steven E. Rau, who died Nov. 8 at the age of 63, had deep connections to Mitchell Hamline School of Law and a legacy of service to the institution. A 1983 graduate of William Mitchell College of Law–a predecessor school to Mitchell Hamline\u2014Rau served from 2016-18 on the law school\u2019s board of trustees. He was a founding member of the Warren E. Burger Inn of Court at the school and, in 2016, received the Marcy S. Wallace Award from the Mitchell Hamline Law Review.<\/p>\n
\u201cSteve Rau was a good friend to this law school and believed deeply in the mission of educating new lawyers. He was an energetic and lively board member\u2014and one who was genuinely fun to work with.\u00a0We will miss him terribly, as I\u2019m sure will the entire legal community,\u201d said Peter Knapp, interim president and dean at Mitchell Hamline.<\/p>\n
A scholarship fund has been established at the school in Rau\u2019s honor.<\/p>\n
