The presentation included a slideshow of photos of students throughout their time in law school, along with videos from Lisa Gray, chair of the board of trustees; interim President and Dean Peter Knapp; Senior U.S. District Judge Michael Davis; and others.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation (available below) lasted about 15 minutes and was followed by a more private Zoom call with students, faculty, and staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJob well done!\u201d exclaimed Reginald Snell Sr. from Huntsville, Ala. \u2013 his son Reginald Jr. was a graduate.<\/p>\n<p>Dean of Students Lynn LeMoine moderated the Zoom call, during which participants shared memories of their time in law school and introduced their families and friends who were with them on the call. This was based on student feedback that they instead wanted to be part of future in-person commencement ceremonies.<\/p>\n<p>Memories were shared, from overcoming exam mishaps in their 1L year to recollections of lots of ice cream breaks (including one student who accidentally ate Dean Mark Gordon\u2019s ice cream in London).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDoes absence make the heart grow fonder?\u201d pondered Jason Rex Tolliver &#8217;20, referencing the final weeks of the semester being conducted online. \u201cLike a good lawyer, I\u2019ll answer \u2018it depends.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tolliver deferred enrollment for a year, during which the school\u2019s EJD option was created, which meant he could attend school as a blended-learning student. He\u2019s the current vice chancellor for student affairs at University of Illinois Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt depends what you felt about the thing before it went away,\u201d he continued. \u201cAnd for me, absence has definitely made me grow fonder of Mitchell Hamline.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"facebook\">\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/plugins\/video.php?href=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2FMitchellHamlineSchoolofLaw%2Fvideos%2F252141652806760%2F&amp;show_text=0&amp;width=560\" width=\"560\" height=\"560\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It wasn\u2019t like past ceremonies, but that might make it a little more memorable in the long run.
