Barbara Colombo<\/p><\/div>\n

Barbara Colombo \u201989, a professor of law and director of the Health Care Compliance Program, is the new director of Mitchell Hamline\u2019s nationally ranked Health Law Institute.<\/p>\n

The institute caters to both J.D. students and health care professionals seeking a greater knowledge of health law in their careers.<\/p>\n

Colombo says the institute\u2019s unique blend of instruction, which uses both classroom learning and experiential clinics and externships, will continue. \u201cWe\u2019re very intentional in how we educate our students,\u201d she noted. \u201cOur students have the opportunity to work side by side with industry leaders.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur goal will always be to prepare health law students to make an immediate and meaningful contribution following graduation.\u201d<\/p>\n

Colombo replaces Professor Thad Pope, who had served as director since January 201<\/span>2. <\/span>Pope has received a Fulbright Scholar Award and will do research at the University of Ottawa in the spring of 2021<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Colombo is a former nurse and <\/span>assistant <\/span>commissioner for the Minnesota Department of Health. After graduating with honors from William Mitchell College of Law in 1989, she joined the firm Robins, Kaplan, Miller, and Ciresi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Also an equine enthusiast, Colombo serve<\/span>s on the Minnesota Racing Commission<\/a> and owns with her partner Horse & Harley Farm, where they are outnumbered by six horses, four dogs, three cats, four hens, and countless deer.<\/span><\/p>\n
