\"\"World Without Genocide, an organization based at Mitchell Hamline School of Law, has been selected to join a network of more than 1,500 civil society entities<\/a> from around the world to have formal association with the United Nations Department of Global Communications.<\/p>\n

The designation means World Without Genocide<\/a> will participate in global advocacy events, including the UN Civil Society Conference; participate in UN briefings; be invited to UN events; and collaborate with other civil society organizations around the world.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is a great honor and an important next step for our organization,\u201d said Ellen Kennedy, the director of World Without Genocide. Kennedy, who also teaches about human rights at Mitchell Hamline, founded the organization 16 years ago to promote education and action to protect innocent people, prevent genocide, prosecute perpetrators, and remember those affected by genocide.<\/p>\n

\"\"\u201cWorld Without Genocide has already received national recognition for its activities,\u201d added Kennedy. \u201cThis association will engage us in important conversations and advocacy for peace and justice around the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The UN Department of Global Communications works with diverse civil society organizations to advance the work of the United Nations regarding human rights, peace, security, and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.<\/p>\n

The announcement on December 10, International Human Rights Day<\/a>, included World Without Genocide as one of 19 organizations from eight countries being selected for formal association.<\/p>\n
