Mitchell Hamline School of Law is pleased to welcome four new faculty members for the fall term. Kelly Burgess, Amber Jannusch, Dana Jones, and Ian Murray bring a wealth of expertise to campus in legal writing, academic excellence, health law, and business law. Their terms started on July 1.<\/p>\n

Assistant Teaching Professor Kelly Burgess<\/p><\/div>\n

Assistant Teaching Professor Kelly Burgess<\/h4>\n

Kelly Burgess<\/a> will be teaching in the legal writing program. She comes to Mitchell Hamline with extensive experience in legal writing, academic support, and bar preparation across in-person, hybrid, and online environments with a deeply student-centered philosophy. She has taught first-year legal writing as well as upper-level courses such as appellate advocacy and legal letters.<\/p>\n

\u201cI feel very fortunate to be a part of the law school here at Mitchell Hamline,\u201d said Burgess. \u201cIt\u2019s really been leading the way in legal hybrid education, and it\u2019s great to be part of an institution that recognizes there are barriers that often hinder people\u2019s ability to attend law school and does all that it can to remove some of those barriers.\u201d<\/p>\n

Assistant Teaching Professor Amber Jannusch<\/h4>\n

Assistant Teaching Professor Amber Jannusch<\/p><\/div>\n

Amber Jannusch<\/a> joins the Academic Excellence team. Jannusch brings a student-centered and holistic approach to academic success work, with experience supporting students from pre-law preparation through bar exam success. She is an experienced college professor and law tutor, interested in integrating mental health and wellness in legal education and practice. A lifelong learner, her research and teaching focuses on interpersonal communication, persuasion, and psychological and pedagogical interventions in legal education.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s really important for students to develop interventions and approaches before they get into particularly high-stress situations like exams, and that\u2019s one thing I really like to work with them on\u2014consider your mental health aspects, include some self-care, and that\u2019s going to help you really approach your education more successfully,\u201d said Jannusch.<\/p>\n

Associate Professor of Law and Health Law Institute Director Dana Jones<\/h4>\n

Associate Professor of Law and Health Law Institute Director Dana Jones<\/p><\/div>\n

Dana Jones<\/a> joins Mitchell Hamline as director of the Health Law Institute. Jones has more than two decades of experience as a health law scholar, educator, and practitioner. Her work sits at the intersection of health care systems, health policy, technology governance, and civil rights, and she is invested in reframing the national conversation about AI, health equity, and transformative teaching. Jones is credentialed as an Emerging Technology Leader through the NCCU Institute of Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Research, expertise she will bring to her leadership of Mitchell Hamline\u2019s Health Law Institute.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat I hope to do in this role is build on what this phenomenal institute has already done, to expand that work and to make sure we\u2019re building connections with our community, with small practice, and others to make sure students have a variety of experiential opportunities available to them,\u201d said Jones.<\/p>\n

Assistant Professor of Law Ian Murray<\/h4>\n

Assistant Professor of Law Ian Murray<\/p><\/div>\n

Ian Murray<\/a> joins Mitchell Hamline after teaching at Tulane Law School and practicing law as a corporate associate at Covington & Burling in New York. His work focuses on business law, international law, and the evolving role of regulation in global markets. His scholarship explores topics including regulatory arbitrage, global legal institutions, and the intersection of law and economic organization.<\/p>\n

\u201cEven though I just arrived on campus, I\u2019ve already finished teaching my first course,\u201d said Murray.\u00a0\u201cI had the extraordinary opportunity to co-teach a seminar in transitional justice with Professor Kim Vu-Dinh at the University of Prishtina in Kosovo as part of one of Mitchell Hamline’s inspiring study abroad programs.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
