What is Title IX?<\/h2>\n

Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 is a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in education. It reads:<\/p>\n

“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.” Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, and its implementing regulation at 34 C.F.R. Part 106 (Title IX)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n

While it is often thought that Title IX applies only to athletics programs, it is much broader than athletics. It also applies to sexual harassment and sexual assault. While compliance is everyone\u2019s responsibility, the Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Coordinators listed below are primarily responsible for Title IX compliance at Mitchell Hamline.<\/p>\n

Mitchell Hamline School of Law does not discriminate on the basis of sex and prohibits sex discrimination in any education program or activity that it operates, as required by Title IX and its regulations, including in admission and employment.<\/p>\n

Sex discrimination includes sexual harassment and sexual assault.<\/p>\n

Inquiries about Title IX may be referred to Michell Hamline\u2019s Title IX Coordinator, the\u00a0U.S. Department of Education\u2019s Office for Civil Rights, or both.<\/p>\n
