We use law, science, and the support of 3.1 million members and online activists to protect the planet&#8217;s wildlife and wild places and to ensure the rights of all people to clean air, clean water, and healthy communities. NRDC was founded in 1970 and our staff helped write some of America&#8217;s bedrock environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act, and many of the implementing regulations. Today, our staff of more than 700 lawyers, scientists, economists, policy advocates, communications experts, and others work across the United States and internationally from our offices in New York; Washington, D.C.; Chicago; Santa Monica; San Francisco; Bozeman, Montana; and Beijing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Recent NRDC victories include:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Successfully challenging numerous rollbacks of environmental protections by the Trump administration<\/li>\n<li>Advancing clean energy and climate change projects in India<\/li>\n<li>Partnering with\u00a0a coalition of residents and organizations to\u00a0successfully require\u00a0the city and state\u00a0to\u00a0safeguard\u00a0the people of Flint, Michigan, from continued exposure to lead in drinking water<\/li>\n<li>Successfully defending the protection of 128 million acres of ocean in the Arctic from oil and gas leasing<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><u>Position Summary<\/u><\/p>\n<p>NRDC is\u00a0seeking\u00a0to hire a\u00a0cohort\u00a0of Summer Legal Interns\u00a0to work\u00a0on cases\u00a0and projects\u00a0with\u00a0attorneys across\u00a0our Program and Litigation Teams.\u00a0Intern positions are available at our New York,\u00a0D.C., Chicago, Santa Monica, and San Francisco offices.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"iCIMS_InfoMsg iCIMS_InfoField_Job\">Responsibilities<\/h2>\n<div class=\"iCIMS_InfoMsg iCIMS_InfoMsg_Job\">\n<div class=\"iCIMS_Expandable_Container\">\n<div class=\"iCIMS_Expandable_Text\">\n<p><span class=\"normaltextrun\">NRDC\u2019s summer legal interns may participate in writing briefs, drafting complaints, preparing legal analyses, obtaining affidavits, investigating violations of environmental and health laws, developing policy advocacy campaigns, and drafting white papers and comments for submission to Congressional committees and administrative agencies. Our interns play an active role on the frontlines to protect our planet and the communities that depend upon it.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"eop\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h2 class=\"iCIMS_InfoMsg iCIMS_InfoField_Job\">Qualifications<\/h2>\n<div class=\"iCIMS_InfoMsg iCIMS_InfoMsg_Job\">\n<div class=\"iCIMS_Expandable_Container\">\n<div class=\"iCIMS_Expandable_Text\">\n<p>This internship is designed for current law school students. In assessing candidates for the summer internship, we look for:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"default\">\n<li>Exceptional legal writing and analytical\u00a0skills;<\/li>\n<li>Strong oral communication\u00a0skills;<\/li>\n<li>Experience effectively working on a\u00a0team;<\/li>\n<li>Creativity and\u00a0resourcefulness;<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to public service, equity, or\u00a0justice;<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrated ability to work with people across different social identities and\u00a0backgrounds;<\/li>\n<li>Record of academic and\/or professional accomplishment; and<\/li>\n<li>Commitment to NRDC\u2019s values and mission.<\/li>\n<li>Prior experience\u00a0in environmental law\u00a0is not required.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>NRDC is committed to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion, both in our work and in our workplace.
