Transgender Identity:\u00a0 Rights and Challenges Locally and Globally<\/em><\/strong> will be offered on Tuesdays, 2:00- 4:00 pm, in a synchronous remote format, for 2 elective credits.\u00a0 It will be team-taught by Judge Tara Kalar, Minnesota Department of Human Services, and Dr. Ellen Kennedy, Executive Director, World Without Genocide.<\/p>\n

In 1975, Minneapolis became the first city in the United States to pass trans-inclusive civil rights protection legislation.\u00a0 In the nearly half-century since that landmark legislation, transgender rights have moved forward but have also faced a significant backlash both locally and globally.\u00a0 This course examines these competing trajectories and the global, national, state, and municipal legislation and policies that affect all areas of a transgender person\u2019s life:\u00a0 education, health care, housing, criminal justice, employment, sport, arts, marriage and family, the legal system, and personal safety.<\/p>\n
