What is Earth Law? Earth law describes the emerging body of law for protecting, restoring, and stabilizing the functional interdependency of Earth’s life and life-support systems at the local, bioregional, and global levels. Earth law may be expressed in constitutional, statutory, common law, and customary law, as well as in treaties and other agreements both public and private. In Earth Law the benefits, protections, and remedies of law are extended to nonhuman beings, animate and inanimate, in their own rights yet in respect of multiple relationships including humans. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Developing this field of law is of paramount importance to a just and verdant planet. Student interns will learn about movement lawyering.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The classes and reading material will include a critique of modern environmental and will introduce the origins and conceptual framework of Earth law. Specific topics include <\/span>rights of nature, rights of future generations, ecocide, human environmental rights, biocultural rights, Indigenous legalities, and ecological governance. <\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

The coursebook\u2019s global survey of emerging Earth law will be woven through this pilot <\/span>course.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Intern Responsibilities:<\/strong> Student interns will take the pilot course <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Earth Law:<\/strong> Emerging Ecocentric Law–A Guide for Practitioners. From June 21-July 28, twelve classes will be taught Monday and Wednesday mornings from 10:30-12:00 Eastern Daylight Time. In addition to class time, the internship will require students to spend 5-10 hours per week, reading, writing, and researching.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Students will critique the class and assist the editors in developing the syllabus. They will prepare answers to study questions included in the book, which will be included as in the Teacher\u2019s Manual. <\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
samples and will undertake research to select on-line media and other supplemental material for completing the Teacher\u2019s Manual.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Faculty: <\/strong>The course will be taught by the book\u2019s editors, Tony Zelle, Grant Wilson, Rachelle Adam, and Herman Greene, with guest lectures from chapter authors.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
