SUMMARY:<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
The Legislative Branch Summer Intern position is a part-time position within the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe tribal government. The Summer Intern performs administrative, clerical, and other duties as assigned by the Legislative Affairs Director. The Summer Intern will regularly collaborate and work with the Legislative Affairs Director, Legislative Counsel, and Revisor of Statutes. The Summer Intern is expected to work two (2) days per week for an eight-week period during the months of June, July, and August.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

QUALIFICATIONS:<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Career interest in the fields of government, legislative affairs, or tribal self-governance.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Willingness to learn federal Indian and\/or tribal law.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Proficient writing, typing, and verbal communication skills.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Microsoft Office proficiency.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Awareness and sensitivity to the culture of the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Band member preference applies.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Must submit a completed Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Tribal Government Employment Application.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Must submit an essay no longer than 1,000 words, explaining interest and aptitude for working in tribal government.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Must sign the Summer Intern Agreement, requiring the Summer Intern to maintain confidentiality and to abide by the Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe Personnel Policy and Procedures.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Must provide two (2) personal or professional references.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Must have a valid driver\u2019s license.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Background investigation required that shows no theft or fraud above a misdemeanor, no felony convictions, and no sexual or crimes-against-a-person conviction at any level. Any pending criminal cases must be disclosed in writing, including the date of the charge, the jurisdiction where the charge took place, and the status of the case.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 Working hours are typically 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\u2022 Local travel may be required.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Organize and label files.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Compose and edit official correspondence.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Scan and store official records into a digital medium.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Assist in the coordination and execution of meetings of the Band Assembly.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Perform other duties as assigned.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
