World Without Genocide is a human rights organization headquartered at Mitchell Hamline School of Law in St. Paul. We provide education about past and current conflicts and advocacy at local, state, and national levels for policies and legislation to protect innocent people, prevent genocide, prosecute perpetrators, and remember those whose lives have been affected by genocide. \n
Legislative Intern \u2013 Fall 2021 \u2013 Spring 2022<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 10-12 hours per week, September 7, 2021 \u2013 May 15, 2022, on a flexible schedule to be determined with the Associate Director and Executive Director.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Unpaid; undergraduate students can arrange course credit in relevant disciplines. Students at the University of Minnesota may qualify for CLA funding. Law students can arrange for credit in independent study.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Responsibilities<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Support World Without Genocide\u2019s legislative agenda at the Minnesota state legislature -:<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
arrange meetings, research related bills and policies, and generate public awareness and support through speaking at programs, design and implement in-person letter-writing campaigns, make public statements, network with key media, and related activities.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Prepare materials for web support of the legislative agenda.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Engage with local organizations to arrange issue support.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Participate in press conferences, coordinate participants for legislative committee hearings, and attend events as appropriate.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Required Qualifications<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 BA (or currently pursuing a BA degree) in relevant field including history, political science, global studies, etc., a law degree, or currently pursuing a law degree.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Clear, effective, and professional written and oral communication skills.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Effective time management and organization skills and ability to meet deadlines.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Strong attention to detail, good problem-solving skills, and the ability to work well independently.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Experience working in a professional capacity with diverse individuals and organizations.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Proof of Covid vaccination.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Access to transportation for regular visits to the Minnesota capitol and to World Without Genocide office.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Commitment to legislation and civic engagement to promote social justice.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
Desired Qualifications<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Work experience at the Minnesota legislature or on political campaigns.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Experience with civic organizations.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
\n
\u2022 Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop, and\/or video software.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n
