{"id":43700,"date":"2021-08-09T23:33:10","date_gmt":"2021-08-10T04:33:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/students\/?p=43700"},"modified":"2021-08-09T23:33:10","modified_gmt":"2021-08-10T04:33:10","slug":"2021-2022-negotiation-and-mediation-competition-tryout-reminder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/students\/2021\/08\/09\/2021-2022-negotiation-and-mediation-competition-tryout-reminder\/","title":{"rendered":"2021-2022 Negotiation and Mediation Competition Tryout Reminder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Tryouts for Negotiation and Mediation Representation Competition Teams will be held via Zoom on the following dates*:<\/strong><br \/>\nWednesday, August 11, 9 AM-11 AM<br \/>\nFriday, August 13, 1-3 PM<br \/>\nSunday, August 15, 1-3 PM<br \/>\nMonday, August 16, 6 PM-8 PM<br \/>\n*All times are Central Time<\/p>\n<p><strong>ABA Negotiation Competition<\/strong><br \/>\nThe ABA Law Student Division Negotiation Competition provides a means for law students to practice and improve their negotiating skills. The competition simulates legal negotiations in which law students, acting as lawyers, negotiate a series of legal problems. The simulations consist of a common set of facts known by all participants and confidential information known only to the participants representing a particular side. All the simulations deal with the same general topic, but the negotiation situation varies with each round and level of the competition. Four students will be selected to compete in teams of two. All students portray lawyers throughout the competition.<br \/>\nArea of law: TBD<\/p>\n<p>Regional competitions (competition will be held remotely): November 2021<br \/>\nNational finals (competition will be held remotely) \u2013 Spring Semester (TBD, typically February).<br \/>\nStudents must have taken, or be concurrently enrolled in, a negotiation course to compete in this completion.<\/p>\n<p>Credits: Students earn two credits in the fall semester. Students must be available to meet weekly in the fall semester for practices. (Additional practice sessions will be added as required nearer the competition. Continued practices may occur during spring semester as needed for the national finals.)<br \/>\nCoaches: Dean Lynn LeMoine, Professor Ken Fox<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mediation Representation Competition<\/strong><br \/>\nThe goal of the Mediation Representation Competition is to enhance students\u2019 knowledge of ADR, specifically mediation. Four students will be selected to compete in teams of two. Students alternate portraying the role of lawyer and client.<\/p>\n<p>Regional ABA competition \u2013 TBD (February or March 2022)<br \/>\nNational ABA finals \u2013 TBD April 2022 (in conjunction with the ABA Section of Dispute Resolution Conference)<\/p>\n<p>Students must have taken, or be concurrently enrolled in, mediation or family mediation course to compete in the mediation representation competition.<\/p>\n<p>Credits: Students earn two credits in the spring semester (or 1 credit in the fall and 1 credit in the spring). Students must be available to meet weekly for practices beginning in September and continuing through the competitions in spring semester.
