The play shares the story of\u00a0Nellie and William Francis, residents of St. Paul\u2019s Rondo neighborhood, who had the courage to buy a home in the \u2018all-white\u2019 neighborhood of Groveland Park (not too far from Mitchell Hamline&#8217;s campus). Although William was a successful lawyer (an MHSL alum!) and prominent figure in the Republican Party, and Nellie was a leader in the Suffragist Movement and responsible for Minnestota\u2019s Anti-Lynching Bill, they found themselves forced to stand tall in the face of ugly, racist protests and KKK-like behavior when they bought the home of their dreams.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Nellie-Francis.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-4554\" src=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/Nellie-Francis.jpg\" alt=\"Black and white picture of Nellie Francis\" width=\"360\" height=\"495\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/WILLIAM-FRANCIS.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-4555\" src=\"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/careers\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2021\/10\/WILLIAM-FRANCIS.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"360\" height=\"444\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thanks to the generosity of Mitchell Hamline&#8217;s President and Dean Emeritus Eric Janus and his wife, Carolyn Chalmers, <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">we<\/span><\/strong><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"> have 10 tickets available for students<\/span> to attend the play on the evening of <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Friday, October 15, at 7:30pm<\/span> at the History Theatre in St. Paul.<\/strong> The theater&#8217;s COVID-19 protocols are available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.historytheatre.com\/covid19\">here<\/a>.
