Minnesota Supreme Court \u2013 Externship and Residency Applications Now Accepted for Spring 2022 (Deadline to Apply EXTENDED \u2013 Monday, Dec. 27 at 11:59pm CT)<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking students to work with them for the spring semester. The Justices of the Minnesota Supreme Court recently decided to expand the opportunity and allow Mitchell Hamline students to complete externships (part-time work experiences) or residencies (full-time work experiences) with the Court this spring. If you were previously ineligible for this because of the time commitment of a residency, now is a great opportunity for you to apply for an externship.<\/span><\/div>\n

This externship\/residency opportunity with the Minnesota Supreme Court is open to students in their second, third, or final years of law school who meet the expanded requirements below.<\/b><\/span><\/div>\n
The Minnesota Supreme Court is seeking three Mitchell Hamline School of Law students to work as Externs or Residents during the Spring Semester 2022. This is an extraordinary opportunity that is available to a small number of Mitchell Hamline students each year.<\/span><\/div>\n
During Spring 2022, one student will work under the supervision of Justice Anne McKeig. The second student will work under the supervision of Justice Paul Thissen. And the third student will work under the supervision of Justice Gordon Moore. The positions can be part-time or full-time as students schedules allow and the selected students will work in exchange for academic credit.<\/span><\/div>\n
Applicants must meet the following qualifications:<\/span><\/div>\n
— Student in their second, third, or final years of law school.<\/span><\/div>\n
— Strong academic performance while in law school.<\/span><\/div>\n
— Superior research, writing, and analysis skills.<\/span><\/div>\n
— Due to Court rules, students may not hold other legal employment during the semester in which they work for the Minnesota Supreme Court.<\/span><\/div>\n
— At this point, the Justices would like students to plan on working in-person at the courthouse in St. Paul, Minnesota for some part of their hours each week during the spring semester. The remainder of their hours may be done remotely. The Court is continuing to watch the COVID-19 transmissions and will advise on any changes to in-person\/remote requirements as we get closer.<\/span><\/div>\n
The Justices of the Minnesota Supreme Court strongly welcome and encourage students of diverse or historically underrepresented backgrounds to apply.<\/span><\/div>\n
Interviews:\u00a0<\/b>The Supreme Court will conduct interviews with selected candidates on Wednesday, January 5 from 1:30-3:30pm CT. If you choose to apply, please hold this time open on your calendars. Interviews will be conducted via Zoom.<\/span><\/div>\n
Final Notification:\u00a0<\/b>The selected students will begin work for the Minnesota Supreme Court in late January timed with the start of the spring semester. Students will be notified whether they have been selected by or before Friday, January 7.<\/span><\/div>\n
