Starting in 1919 after World War I, through World War II, the Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, Gulf War, and now the Global War on Terrorism, the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs recognizes the sacrifices and courage Minnesotans demonstrated to defend our country.<\/p>\n<p>Individuals can apply through the <a href=\"https:\/\/vetservicebonus.mdva.mn.gov\/\">applicant portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Eligibility requirements<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Veterans, currently serving service members, Veterans\u2019 beneficiaries, or Veterans\u2019 guardians, conservators or legally appointed personal representatives. Veterans in Minnesota are defined under <a href=\"https:\/\/www.revisor.mn.gov\/statutes\/cite\/197.447\">Minnesota statute 197.447<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Award levels<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>$600<\/strong> if the Veteran or currently serving service-member served honorably in federal service during the qualifying period (September 11, 2001 \u2013 August 30, 2021) and was <strong>NOT<\/strong> awarded one of the following medals: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Iraq Campaign Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Afghanistan Campaign Medal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$1,200<\/strong> if the Veteran or currently serving service-member served honorably in federal service during the qualifying period (September 11, 2001 \u2013 August 30, 2021) and <strong>WAS<\/strong> awarded one of the following medals: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Iraq Campaign Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Afghanistan Campaign Medal.<\/p>\n<p><strong>$2,000<\/strong> for the beneficiary of Veteran who served federal service during the qualifying period (September 11, 2001 \u2013 August 30, 2021) <strong>AND<\/strong> died during the eligibility period (September 11, 2001 \u2013 August 30, 2021) as a result of a service-connect injury, disease, or condition, and <strong>WAS<\/strong> awarded one of the following medals: Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; or Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Iraq Campaign Medal; <strong>or<\/strong> Afghanistan Campaign Medal.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Background The Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs (MDVA) has a long history of awarding service bonuses to Minnesota Veterans who served in America&#8217;s conflicts.
