The Probate and Trust Law Section of the Minnesota State Bar Association seeks a second- or third-year law student to serve as the Jerry G. Dygert clerk to the Section Council. \u00a0The Section Council works on behalf of the Probate and Trust Law Section members and the public to assist with and improve the practice of estate planning, probate and trust law in Minnesota.<\/p>\n
The clerk will primarily support the Legislative Committee of the Section.\u00a0 The Legislative Committee researches, drafts and proposes new legislation affecting the practice areas of trust and estate administration, and offers testimony on bills to the Minnesota Legislature.\u00a0 The clerk may also support other committees of the Section Council on an as-needed basis.<\/p>\n
It is expected for the clerk to attend all Section Council meetings (third Thursday of every month at 3:30 p.m., one hour per meeting) in downtown Minneapolis, and Legislative Committee meetings (second Friday of every month at 12:00 p.m., up to an hour-and-a half per meeting) by telephone conference.\u00a0 Work for the committees may include researching legal issues assigned by the committee on a timely basis and taking meeting minutes.\u00a0 If transportation is an issue, call-in and Zoom attendance is available.<\/p>\n
An interest in the probate and trust practice area is recommended.\u00a0 Participation in the Section Council and committee meetings provides an opportunity to network with lawyers in the Twin Cities and Greater Minnesota.\u00a0 The clerkship also provides insight into Minnesota\u2019s legislative process.<\/p>\n
The clerkship pays $30.00 per hour and provides 10 or fewer hours of work per week.\u00a0 Some weeks may not require any hours.\u00a0 The position has a one-year term, with most of the work occurring in the fall and winter.<\/p>\n
