{"id":48193,"date":"2023-02-09T16:04:29","date_gmt":"2023-02-09T22:04:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/students\/?p=48193"},"modified":"2023-02-09T16:04:29","modified_gmt":"2023-02-09T22:04:29","slug":"fair-housing-testers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mitchellhamline.edu\/students\/2023\/02\/09\/fair-housing-testers\/","title":{"rendered":"Fair Housing Testers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><u>TESTERS WANTED<\/u><\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>We need testers to help fight housing discrimination <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>What\u2019s a tester? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Our fair housing testers pretend to be looking to rent and call or go in person to check on rentals.\u00a0 Then they fill out a detailed report on exactly what happened.\u00a0 The reports of different testers are compared to see if testers were treated differently.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If different testers are shown different apartments, told different rent amounts, or told different rental requirements, it might be evidence of discrimination.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why test?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Discrimination in housing is a real problem. Proving it can be hard. People who discriminate don\u2019t usually say things like, \u201cI don\u2019t rent to blacks.\u201d\u00a0 Testing is a way to find the problems. For many years now, the government and agencies have used testers to look into reports of discrimination.\u00a0 One successful case using testers even went to the U.S. Supreme Court.\u00a0 Test results have led to thousands of successful agency complaints, lawsuits, and other measures to stamp out housing discrimination!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>We need your help!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A successful testing program requires diversity.\u00a0 We need people of all races, colors, national origins, abilities, ages and genders.\u00a0 We will train you.\u00a0 You need to be dependable and able to fill out a report.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Why should you be a tester?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You will get to help fight housing discrimination.\u00a0 You will be helping people live where they choose.\u00a0 Your work will help ensure that landlords and property owners follow the law.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you are interested in becoming a tester or would like more information, contact: <strong>Erica Whitaker<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Fair Housing Investigation and Outreach Coordinator at<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(612) 552-6531 ewhitaker@mylegalaid.org<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>TESTERS WANTED We need testers to help fight housing discrimination What\u2019s a tester?
