The course will be taught by Judge Tara Kalar and Dr. Ellen Kennedy, Executive Director of World Without Genocide.<\/p>\n
Mitchell Hamline is among the very few U.S. law schools offering a course exclusively on transgender rights.<\/p>\n
In 1975, Minneapolis became the first city in the US to pass legislation for trans-inclusive civil rights protection. In the nearly half-century since that legislation, transgender rights have moved forward but now face a significant backlash locally and globally.<\/p>\n
This course examines these competing trajectories and the legislation and policies affecting a transgender person\u2019s life: education, health care, housing, criminal justice, employment, sport, arts, marriage and family, the legal system, and safety.<\/p>\n
