Mental Illness Screening and Court Communication Role Play

Dan Berstein

This role play is designed to help students 1) reflect of the importance of ethical guidance documents; 2) understand the impact of the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) on court policies and mediation; 3) appreciate and mitigate the mental illness stigma and discrimination; 4) be aware of the role courts play in overseeing mediators; and 5) see how communication instead of avoidance can prevent escalation. The scenario can be used as a negotiation or mediation.
