Resources

Dispute resolution legal educators have a long tradition of sharing teaching resources and DRI has facilitated this sharing by collecting and publishing these resources. We are pleased to provide the collection of these resources in a searchable database.

In this database you will find experiential activities, simulations, videos, assignments, lesson plans, teaching tools, and podcasts. All items in the database are offered free of charge for academic use.

You may search this database in a variety of ways, based on “subject matter,” “skill,” etc. We also have added a search facet for “NextGen” which we anticipate will continue to grow with resources as we all learn more about the Next Gen Bar Exam and how best to prepare our students. To get started, choose at least one search option and select a filter. You will see the number of resources that are currently available for each.

This is a dynamic site to which items are added regularly. You also are welcome to submit a resource you wish to share.

State Collapse and Domestic Devolution – Wicked Hybrid Conflicts
This case study presents the tumultuous history of the Central African Republic, Libya, Yemen, and Afghanistan which, despite clear differences, exhibit similar traits: a power vacuum created by the inefficiency of the State leads to power struggles among local figures, fueled by corruption, looting of natural resources, interethnic or intertribal fights, all the above being […]
Rare-Earth Elements Mining and Milling Conflicts
This case study uses the technique of developing “anticipatory” scenarios. It offers students the realistic situation of a think-tank seeking to acquire negotiation and conflict management skills from outside partners, in the context of a project on global strategies regarding the mining and acquisition of rare-earth elements (REEs). REEs (mostly metals) are key to modern […]
No Good Deed Unpunished
This hypothetical scenario presents a multiplayer situation, around the proposal of the European Union to site a nuclear power plant in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Rivalry over where it should be located, and what prime contractor is to be dominant, and therefore what country since all the possible contractors are closely associated with major powers, has […]
Nord Stream – A Commercial Project With Geopolitical, Environmental and Energy Security Implications
This case sketches the background to the development of the Nord Stream pipelines. This is a controversial project: the construction of one (then a second) pipeline connecting Russia and Germany via an underwater route beneath the Baltic Sea. The project was nearly completed prior to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine which began on 24 February 2022. […]
Trouble in Agudama-Epie
This case centers around Ochuko, a young Nigerian rising star in the oil sector with expertise in oil prospecting, extracting, and refining. Ochuko returned home to participate in the growth of his country’s oil and gas industry. When he arrived, he encountered many complexities including espionage, covert state players, corruption, and exploitation of local communities. […]
Money Does Not Come Free
This case tells the tale of three childhood friends turned entrepreneurs who create a company in the field of medical prosthetics. The products they sell could have military applications. Like many start-uppers and despite little business acumen, they need funds to develop their business, and end up dealing with venture capitalists and wealthy investors. A […]
NovaFeed – Modern War in the Office
This case describes the plight of a news media company, based in a Western liberal democratic country (Federatio) which employs immigrants from two countries, Agraria and Voracia. When full-scale war breaks out between Agraria and Voracia, the company decides not to relay news articles from Voracia news outlets suspected of propaganda. Soon afterwards, it is […]
Life in 2040
This case involves a young character, Julie, immersed in a post-modern world where tensions are high and hybrid warfare mechanisms at full play. She is offered a career opportunity in a somewhat shady, yet stable job. After accepting it, she discovers that she may find herself at the heart of a foreign nation’s efforts to […]
Disinformation - Part of a Bundle. How Can Malign Actors Target Any One of Us?
This case involves two civil servants, who live rather regular lives as a married couple. Jane works for the Ministry of Health, while John works for the Ministry of Energy; his job leads him to contribute to the preparation of the negotiation of a new Free Trade Agreement with a neighboring State. Jane has suffered […]
A National Crime Reporter
This scenario depicts the legal troubles met by a journalist, in conjunction with his investigative work on the Chinese Communist Party’s involvement with transnational organized crime and the corruption of Western politicians. It enables a focus on the concept of lawfare, defined as the misuse of the law and the judicial system against an opponent. […]
