Adjunct Professor Sara Gonsalves has worked in the anti-violence legal advocacy field for over ten years. She currently serves as the point of contact on sexual and domestic violence for the Minnesota Judicial Branch. In this role, she assists court staff and judicial officers with questions about how to process cases involving sexual or domestic violence, such as protective orders. She also responds to questions and complaints posed by community-based and government agencies assisting crime victims in the courts.
Prior to her role with the Minnesota Judicial Branch, Gonsalves served as a project attorney with the Minnesota Coalition Against Sexual Assault. She also worked for the Legal Aid Society of Minneapolis, Immigration Law Project, as a staff attorney and a law clerk. There, she assisted immigrants with naturalization, asylum, VAWA self-petitions, U visas and visa processing. She has further legal experience with the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office, Victim/Witness Services for Coconino County in Flagstaff, Ariz., and the Dane County District Attorney’s Office in Madison, Wis.
