Professional Focus, Research, and Scholarship
During her twenty years as a law school professor, Professor Schmedemann has pursued three main interests: the teaching of key law practice skills, empirical analysis of contracting behaviors, and the ever-changing law of employment relations.
Professor Schmedemann is a frequent speaker on employment law topics at CLE programs and on teaching issues at law school conferences
“During my 1997-98 sabbatical, I volunteered at the Appalachian Research and Defense Fund in eastern Kentucky. One day I read about a community activist who learned about community service from his father; the activist spoke of his father as a ‘red rose in a wheat field’ — a man who stood out from the rest for his good works. It is our mission at William Mitchell — and I think we often succeed in this — to enable our students to become ‘red roses in a wheat field.’”
