Judge Jill Flaskamp Halbrooks was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She obtained her B.A. in sociology with a teaching certificate in 1971 and an M.A. in guidance and counseling from the University of Colorado in 1976. As part of her master’s degree, Jill trained in a year-long practicum in the counseling center of the University of California – Davis. She earned her J.D. cum laude from William Mitchell College of Law in 1985 and practiced law at Rider Bennett Egan & Arundel focused on civil trial work in areas of railroad, insurance, products liability, and employment law until her appointment to the Minnesota Court of Appeals in 1998. She is very active in leadership roles in professional organizations, appointed commissions, and non-profit boards in the community.
Jill is married and has two children.
She teaches in the General Practice: Skills Practicum at Mitchell Hamline and was named to the school’s board of trustees in 2011.
