Adjunct/Affiliated Professor
Joe Erickson is chair of the English division at Anoka-Ramsey Community College, where he has taught college writing courses for ten years. He was the director of college writing at Angelo State University for two years. He holds a Ph.D. in English from Bowling Green State University and a J.D. from Mitchell Hamline. Erickson also performs legal research and writing services for various attorneys as a private contractor.
Erickson’s academic research highlights the ways in which college students draw upon non-traditional literate practices developed outside of academic contexts to power their development of academic literacy skills and enculturation into new academic disciplines over time. He argues that educators must do more to validate the unseen literacies students bring with them to college writing classes, for doing so empowers students to take greater agency over their development as communicators within their academic disciplines.
Erickson currently serves as a grading adjunct for the Legal Writing program.
