Counseling Services
Jon has worked in several college counseling centers since 2006, most recently Macalester College. Jon obtained a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University, Collegeville, and completed his first year in law school at the University of Notre Dame. At Notre Dame, Jon explored combining law with psychology, but after one year studying graduate-level psychology, Jon took a permanent leave from law and has focused entirely on counseling ever since. Jon obtained his Master’s in Clinical Social Work (M.S.W.) from the University of Minnesota in 2002. His overall work has been significantly informed by a social work-lens (i.e. mental health plus social justice), a passion for radical self-care (e.g. meditation, breath tools, and trauma work), and surviving his first year of law school. Some of his favorite individual/group issues have been effective communication (especially connecting across differences like race, gender, and sexual identity), solutions for anxiety, exploring grief, and mindfulness for depression.
