Professor Marquis Tapplin is Senior Legal Counsel at Community Reinvestment Fund, USA, a national CDFI headquartered in Minnesota that partners with small businesses to expand access to capital and resources. In his role, Professor Tapplin provides legal advice to various business teams on a broad range of business matters, with a particular focus on lending transactions and special funds. Before joining CRF, Professor Tapplin practiced commercial lending at the Minneapolis office of a national AmLaw 100 firm. Earlier in his career, he spent over 15 years in hospitality service and management, an experience that continues to inform his practical approach to teaching, problem-solving, and client service. Professor Tapplin earned his J.D., summa cum laude, from Mitchell Hamline School of Law, and externed for the Honorable Franklin Noel, U.S. Magistrate Judge (Ret.) for the District of Minnesota. Professor Tapplin enjoys bringing real-world legal insights into the classroom and enhancing student learning through simulation-based instruction.
